Frequently asked questions

1. What do I need to provide at my notary appointment?

A: You must present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID (such as a California Driver’s License, ID card, or US Passport) that matches the name on your document. Additionally, please ensure your documents are completely filled out except for the signature lines, which must be signed in my physical presence.

2. Can you notarize a document if the signer is missing proper identification?

A: Yes, but only under strict legal conditions. If you do not have a valid photo ID, California law allows the use of Credible Witnesses. You must have either one witness who personally knows both the signer and the notary, or two witnesses who personally know the signer and can present their own valid government photo IDs to me.

3. Can you help me choose or fill out the right legal form?

A: No. By law, a Notary Public is strictly prohibited from helping you select, draft, or fill out legal documents. Doing so constitutes the Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL). If you are unsure which form or notarial act (Acknowledgment or Jurat) you need, please consult the document’s issuing agency or a licensed attorney before our appointment.

4. What is the difference between an Acknowledgment and a Jurat?

A: An Acknowledgment verifies your identity and confirms that you signed the document voluntarily; the document can be signed before you meet with me. A Jurat requires you to sign the document directly in my presence and take a verbal oath or affirmation swearing that the contents of the document are completely true.

5. Can you notarize a document that is already signed?

A: It depends on the type of notarization required. If the document requires an Acknowledgment, I can notarize it as long as you personally appear before me, present valid ID, and verbally acknowledge that the signature is yours. If the document requires a Jurat, the document cannot be signed ahead of time; you must sign it in my presence.

6. Do you travel to my location, and what are your mobile service hours?

A: Yes, I am a fully mobile notary operating as a sole proprietor. I save you time by traveling directly to your home, office, hospital, or local coffee shop across Orange and surrounding areas. Mobile appointments can be requested for standard business hours, evenings, or weekends via my website form.

7. How much do your general notary services cost?

A: In accordance with California statutory limits, the maximum legal fee is $15 per individual signature notarized. In addition to the per-signature fee, a transparent mobile travel fee is charged based on the distance, travel time, and appointment scheduling. Please submit an appointment request for a complete, upfront quote.

8. Can you notarize documents that are written in a foreign language?

A: Yes, California allows the notarization of foreign language documents. However, the signer must be able to communicate directly with me without an interpreter, the document must be complete (no blank spaces), and the notary wording itself must be written in English.

9. Can a notary public refuse to notarize a document?

A: Yes. A professional notary is legally obligated to refuse service if the signer lacks valid identification, appears confused, does not understand what they are signing, appears to be acting under duress, or if the transaction appears fraudulent.

10. Are you certified, bonded, and insured?

A: Yes. I am fully commissioned by the State of California, background-checked by the National Notary Association (NNA), bonded as required by law, and carry robust Errors and Omissions (E&O) insurance to guarantee absolute peace of mind for my clients.
